3. Watch Traffic Patterns

Traffic movement is a vital consideration in good kitchen design. If the only way to the back door is through the kitchen, then there could be accidents, particularly if the oven door opens to the busy thoroughfare.

Traffic can't cut through a U-shaped kitchen. That is why this design is favored. But a galley design kitchen with a dead end should work efficiently as well. Think about how the doors will open and how many there are. And remember to leave wall space for tall storage areas such as pantries.
